Barrington Fire Wins 2019 Ron Lee Award

The Ron Lee Award was established in memory of Dr. Lee to provide annual recognition of excellence by individuals dedicated to pediatric emergency care and childhood injury prevention initiatives within Illinois.

The Barrington Fire Department was nominated for this award by one of the Barrington Middle School Principals (Craig Winkleman).  They specified that Barrington personnel have taught over 500 D220 teachers Stop the Bleed as well as doing several Active Shooter Drills for the High School and Middle Schools.  Also assisting them with other Emergency Preparedness situations along with all the times they go there for transports of injured or ill students.

Added Connie Mattera,
EMS Administrative Director, NWC EMSS:
"What an exciting and wonderful honor for the Barrington Fire Department and particularly its members who helped do all of this education! We celebrate with you and especially are pleased for the reason you won the award. We value highly anything that can be done to help our communities to prepare for and mitigate any threats to the health, safety and welfare of those within our service area.  Perfect example of this year's EMS theme!"

Dr. Lee was the first Principal Investigator of the Illinois EMSC program and was instrumental in establishing and fostering an Emergency Medical Services for Children program in Illinois which aims to further pediatric emergency care and childhood illness/injury prevention efforts throughout our state.

Congratulations to all involved!
