EMS System Job Description for The Provider EMS Coordinator
(These are the system's duties for coordinators and are not agency specific)

The Provider EMS Coordinator serves as the liaison between the NWC EMS System (both Resource and Associate hospitals) and their respective agency/department. They report to the Chief / Director / EMS CEO of their agency or department. The PEMSC is an appointed position.

Any individual holding the Provider EMS Coordinator position must be currently licensed as a paramedic or Pre-hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) in the State of Illinois with practice privileges in good standing in the Northwest Community EMS System.

Some, but not all of the PEMSC's duties include:

A. Facilitate completion of preceptor paperwork, facilitate the internship, and provide licensure recommendations for paramedic students within the agency.

B. Maintain CE verification
 forms for each agency EMT/Paramedic.

C. Maintain continuing education records with original instructor and student signatures verifying attendance at CE offerings by the agency for all levels of licensure.


D. Obtain IDPH site codes for CE offerings provided by the agency, provide agency EMTs and EMRs with continuing education.

E. Coordinate In-Station visit scheduling with respective In-Station coordinators.

F. Coordinate implementation of the System's BLS Skill Competency evaluation process for their respective agency.

G. Ensure that all agency EMS personnel comply with mandatory system requirements, ie, annual CE, CPR, modular testing, intubation competencies, and mandatory reviews.

H. Meet with their assigned hospital EMS Coordinator to verify and document completion of all CE requirements.

I. Monitor patient care reports for compliance with System standards and trend opportunities for improvement. Provide coaching with crews to praise or recommend corrective action.

J. Participate in CQI studies as determined by the EMS MD, Chiefs, PBPI Committee, EMS Coordinators, and the Advisory Board.

K. Collaborate with the EMS Coordinator at the assigned System hospital to conduct preliminary investigations regarding complaints or requests for clarification.

L. With the apporoval of their agency Chief / CEO, represent their agency at System meetings that may be held for the purpose of planning, organizing, implementing, or evaluating System activities or for other purposes deemed important to achieving the goals and objectives of the agency's EMS strategic plan.

M. Collaborate with the Chief/Director/EMS CEO to ensure Agency compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines directed to and associated with the agency's involvement in EMS.

N. In many cases, the Provider EMS Coordinator also serves as the Designated Infection Control (DICO) for their agency although this may vary by agency.

The Northwest Association of Provider EMS Coordinators meet monthly throughout the year.  Typically, meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of the month at Northwest Community Hospital.
