Schiller Park Cardiac Save

5/31/2016

On March 18th,  The Schiller Park Fire Depatrtment was dispatched for a medical call.  Upon arrival, the crew encountered a 69 year old male in cardiac arrest.  Neighbors were present and one of them was performing CPR.  The engine and ambulance crew took over patient care.

FF/PM Blaine Schnieder, FF/PM Adam Niemand , FF/PM David Kady, FF/PM Tim Bubis, and PM Andy Paukert  (from left to right in the department photo) were successful in obtaining a Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC), in their resuscitative efforts, including defibrillation.  The patient was transported to Resurrection Medical Center and care was transferred to the ER staff.

According to Resurrection’s Assistant EMS Coordinator Cindy Brennan, the patient was admitted to Presence Resurrection Medical Center on March 18 and received the placement of a coronary stent and an AICD prior to his discharged on March 24.

This is another example of how well-trained personnel, along with bystanders knowing CPR can impact the patient’s outcome.  Congratulations to the personnel of Schiller Park as well as the personnel of Presence Resurrection’s Emergency Department.
