Des Plaines November 2014 Cardiac Save

1/3/2015

On November 10, 2014. Des Plaines crews were dispatched for a report of a “fall” at a local store. Enroute dispatch advised CPR in progress.

Engine 62 was the first vehicle on scene (crew of Owen, Swierczynski, Wilson). Upon their arrival, they took over CPR from the police and defibrillated the patient twice. Their patient had immediate ROSC. Ambulance 61 arrived (crewed by Mazzei & Bauer) and the Patient re-arrested. CPR initiated and the patient was defibrillated once. The patient converted and woke up, slightly confused and stated she was fine and wanted to return to work.

IMC was initiated including 12 LEAD which showed sinus tach with BBB. The patient was transported to LGH. Hospital follow-up indicated that the patient underwent cardiac catheterization, which showed that the v-fib arrest was a result of cardiomyopathy.
Commented Deputy Chief Pete Dyer, “[There is] Much to be said for ALS non-transport vehicles.”
