Itasca Cardiac Save Aug 2017

8/6/2017

This 59 y/o male was found on the floor of a meeting room unresponsive and with agonal respirations. Bystander CPR had been started prior to EMS and Police arrival.

Itasca Police Officer Scott Lawson was in the process of applying his AED to the patient when Itasca Fire units arrived.    While Itasca FD was setting up their equipment, the AED called for a shock which Officer Lawson delivered.  Itasca then took over CPR and proceeded with ALS resuscitative interventions.  During their 1 hour 5 minute on-scene resuscitation, they had received additional ALS assistance from the Wood Dale FD, and had contacted ABMC’s ED three times for consultation and suggestions.  After the last call it was mutually decided to transport with CPR in progress (another 6 minutes) due to the presence of some spontaneous respirations, despite no palpable pulse.  Resuscitation measures continued in the ED, where after 13 minutes ROSC was achieved.  Patient is now awake, alert and on a tele floor.

Our congratulations to the entire crew:

Itasca FD personnel on call were:  FF/PM Dave Brzezicki, FF/PM Bryan Hand, FF/PM Jeff Kloptowsky, FF/EMT Tony Carlini and Lt/EMT Rob Pokorny.
Wood Dale FD personnel were:  FF/PM John Hurst and FF/PM Lou Hoffman.  Unfortunately, the Wood Dale personnel are not featured in this picture.
